After reading this guide you will understand how NHS FP17 claims are submitted in VeriPath Dental — from a draft claim through to transmission to the NHSBSA gateway. You will learn what the FP17 claims list shows, how to review a draft claim and submit it, and what the claim statuses mean as the claim moves through the system.
Who does this? Dentists (performers) and practice staff submit FP17 claims for NHS-funded treatment. Practice managers can also view and manage claims.
Related guide: once a claim is accepted, its payment is split into the NHS share and the patient contribution — see State-Backed Co-payment Splitting.
FP17 is the NHS form used to claim payment for NHS dental treatment. In VeriPath Dental, each NHS course of treatment produces a claim that carries:
A claim moves through these statuses:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Created but not yet submitted |
| Queued for submission | Ready and queued to send |
| Transmitted to NHSBSA | Sent to the NHSBSA gateway |
| Accepted | The claim has been accepted |
| Partially paid | The gateway has paid part of the claim |
| Rejected | The claim was rejected (a rejection reason is shown) |
The FP17 NHS Claims list opens, showing one row per claim with the claim number, appointment date, practice, performer, NHS band, fee, and a status badge.

| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Claim # | The claim's reference number |
| Appointment | The date of the appointment |
| Practice | Where the treatment happened |
| Performer | Who performed the treatment |
| Band | The NHS band (1, 2 or 3) |
| Fee | The total NHS fee |
| Status | The current status badge (Draft, Queued, Transmitted, Accepted, Partially paid, Rejected) |
| View | Opens the claim's detail page |
The status badges make it easy to spot claims that still need action (Draft), are in flight (Queued, Transmitted), or need attention (Rejected).
The claim's detail page opens.

Review the details before submitting:
Tip: check that the NHS band and fee are correct before submitting — the band determines the fee and, later, the co-payment split.
The system:

A confirmation message appears ("Claim submitted"), the status badge updates, and the NHSBSA Reference appears on the claim.
