¶ Imaging & PACS Storage
¶ What you'll be able to do
After reading this guide you will be able to upload dental radiographs (X-rays) in VeriPath Dental, tag them by type, and view them again later directly from the patient's record. You will also understand how the image is stored (in the object store) and how to read the automatic AI analysis that flags possible findings such as caries or bone loss.
Who does this? Dentists and dental admins upload and review radiographs. The images are stored centrally (object storage) so the whole practice can view the same scan.
¶ Before you start
You will need:
- A VeriPath Dental login with the Dentist or Dental Admin role
- The patient's appointment — the patient is taken from their appointment when you upload
- The image file to upload (PNG, JPG, or a DICOM-derived image)
¶ About imaging storage
Every radiograph you upload is stored centrally in the practice's object store (MinIO) and linked to the patient's electronic record. This means:
- The image is available from any screen in the practice, not just the machine it was taken on.
- The original scan stays in storage while the app serves a viewable copy.
- Each upload is tagged with a type (bite wing, periapical, panoramic, cephalometric) so scans are easy to find.
¶ Step 1: Open the Radiographs screen
- Log in to VeriPath Dental.
- Click Radiographs in the top navigation bar.
The Radiographs list opens. It shows one row per scan, newest first, with the patient, the radiograph type, whether the AI has reviewed it, any risk flags, and the upload date.

¶ Step 2: Upload a radiograph
- From the Radiographs list, click Upload.
The Upload Radiograph form opens.
¶ Step 3: Choose the patient and practice
- Patient (via appointment) — select the patient from the list (shown as patient — date). The patient is taken from their appointment.
- Practice — select the practice where the scan was taken.
¶ Step 4: Tag the scan type
- Radiograph Type — choose the scan type:
- Bite Wing — for checking between teeth (crowns of upper and lower teeth together).
- Periapical — shows the whole tooth, from crown to root tip.
- Panoramic — a wide view of the whole mouth.
- Cephalometric — a side-profile view used for orthodontics.
- Appointment ID (optional) — you can leave this blank.
- Image File — choose the image file (PNG, JPG, or a DICOM-derived image).
¶ Step 5: Save the upload
- Click Upload.
The scan is saved to the object store and linked to the patient. You are returned to the Radiographs list, where the new scan appears at the top.
¶ Step 6: View a scan and its AI analysis
- Click View on any row — or the patient's name — to open the scan.
The Radiograph page shows the image, the record details, and the AI analysis.
- Image — the radiograph, displayed large so it can be reviewed on screen.
- Details — patient, practice, type, appointment, upload time, and the MinIO object name (the storage location of the original scan).
- AI Analysis — shown once the AI has reviewed the scan:
- A Reviewed badge when analysis is complete.
- Risk flags (red badges) for findings such as caries or bone loss.
- The full analysis output, including confidence scores, for clinical review.
- If the AI has not yet reviewed the scan, the page simply says "Not yet reviewed by AI."
¶ Useful tips
- Tag the type at upload — it makes scans much easier to find later, especially when a patient has several.
- Risk flags are a screening aid, not a diagnosis — always review the flagged areas on the image yourself.
- One scan, whole practice — because the image is in the object store, any clinician at the practice can open the same scan from the list.
